It's hard to fully express my appreciation for burger-chan (#1) into words, but for my 400th review in Houston, it appears I must. Willet and Diane, the husband and wife duo have taken a non-conventional approach to casual dining and in doing so, have amassed quite the reputation and have become one of (if not *the*) city's most beloved burger spots. Formally Kuma Burgers from back in the day, their transition from their previous location in Greenway to their current Galleria locale has been well received by their dedicated local following. Their limited hours means the window is short, resulting in practically daily lines during their uber popular lunch service. They close at 3pm, so get there plenty early for food guarantees and a seat. The format (#2) is genius: find a mini clipboard that is color coded (based on the food item) and customize it by noting what is / isn't wanted. I'm ordering a minimum of two 5oz patties and am forever tempted with the add-ons, including cheese, bacon, a fried egg, slabs of spam, avocado, and an endless barrage of sauces that include scallion aioli and sambal mayo. The end result is a spendy burger that is of my doing. A delicious doing. I've yet to have a bad meal here. I consider myself fortunate to have tried a number of items, from different burger combinations to burger alternatives such as their highly underrated falafel burger and panko breaded mahi mahi fish sandwiches. I've also enjoyed their tater tots, fried cheese curds, sweet potato + regular fries, and even the curly fries. While I don't usually indulge in too many drinks, I have to say they have one of the coolest water machines out there. It spits out ice perfectly and the water is ice cold. I've also tried some of their indulgent shakes, including strawberry, corn and black sesame. There is also a robust list of alcoholic beverages in the form of craft beer for adults who want a little buzz with their burger. Lastly, their staff gets some major kudos. While Diane handles the register and Willet oversees the kitchen, the rest of their young staff is hustling away at getting food out and keeping the place in pristine condition. They really do an excellent job at making the dream work with some quality team work. I appreciate their efforts and love their approach to community. They are often participating in collaborations with others in the food space and coming up with interesting seasonal, experimental items, and even daily riddles to keep customers engaged. They're an exemplary Asian-owned biz, a true burger destination, and ultimately, one of the most unique concepts in Houston. __________ (#1) Which I quickly learned was "chon", signifying the diminutive version of "cute" in Japanese. (#2) The end result of a trained chef and an educator. Brilliant.

Pretty cool burger spot in the Galleria area. You basically fill out the type of burger you want with the toppings & sides, and they cook it for you. It was pretty packed when I went so I got mines togo. The burger was a good burger. I also got the waffle fries as well.

The burgers are pricey but worth the price. Very juicy and flavorful! The ordering system is very organized and unique. You choose the type of order you want such as burger vs hot dog etc. then you fill out the clip board. Nice workers. I would come back again if I were in the area. Very casual place.

Darn good, well made burger!! Really enjoyed it! Their tater tots were great too! Crispy and well-seasoned! Viet coffee milkshake was okay! Overall, would return for the burgers and tots! Plenty of parking which was a huge plus!

I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend after making her upset. What better way to ease the discomforts of disagreement than with a date to this Japanese theme burger joint. When entering this establishment, you will be met with a sheet where you can pick and choose your fixings to make the perfect burger. If only it was this easy for her to pick and choose what I could fix to make me the perfect boyfriend. As you would expect from this restaurant based on its raving reviews, the line to order can be long. As we all learned, anything worth having is always worth the wait. To combat the monotony of waiting, the restaurant has a daily math-based challenge posted on a chalkboard. The cashier who takes the orders will confirm your answer and give you a prize like a piece of candy. I did not get the chance to solve the daily challenge as my mind was already posed with the challenge of fixing my relationship. Nonetheless, I didn't think the cashier would have been able to confirm if my answer was correct for my particular challenge. The tension between my girlfriend and I was thick, just like the perfect consistency of their smooth delicious milkshakes that paired really well with our food. She got the corn milkshake. My girlfriend and I have had tussles in the past, but this time I was suspecting her tolerance for me was growing thin. But not as thin as these perfectly well seasoned smashed beef patties that were served in our burgers. Our choice of bun was sweet sourdough which worked really well for our burger. Funny how things like these hamburger buns or my girlfriend can be both sweet and sour at the same time. My girlfriend enjoyed texture of the crispy edges formed from the smashed burger patties. When we first met, she told me she thought I was rough around the edges too. I ordered the fries and got the scallion aioli as the dip. It was very aromatic and garlic-y, which I didn't mind. I didn't think I was going to be on the receiving end of any kisses anytime soon anyways. There's a saying that when food is so good, everyone falls silent. This was definitely the fact here and should not be confused with the silence that occurred that day because my girlfriend and I tend to get quiet when we are in disagreements. With our stomachs full of burger-chan's delicious food, our bodies were able to divert its focus by filling our hearts back up with love for each other. We are still together. I'd like to think that burger-chan saved our relationship, and I hope to come back with her for many more future visits.

It's a cool place. Obviously it's a popular because I went at lunch time and the line was looong and there was a bit of a wait but eventually the line died down. The food is good. Good standard fries. Good patty in the burger. Fresh veggies. Good drink choices. Different simple syrups to add to the drink. Halal food. Good variety of options. Cool ordering system with ordering sheets. Nice staff. The busers move quickly to clear tables and keep the place clean. They were super impressive. Overall, I'll come back.

The first time I had burger Chan I was blown away by how good the burgers were. The burgers here are HUGE too. They are near the galleria so traffic can get pretty packed around that area. They close really early at 3 as well. When you enter, there are sheets of paper where you can build your own burger hotdog, chicken sandwich for fish sandwich. They have so many unique add ons and drinks that you can try. There are also a lot of tables available outside in the shade if the inside gets too packed, which it does during lunch. I got a 5 oz party with pepper Jack cheese, a fried egg (medium), sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, pickled jalapeños, mayo, and ketchup. I also got the sweet potato fries with scallion aioli and sambal mayo on the side. First sauce is free but every additional sauce is $0.50 extra. I also got a royal milk tea. The burgers are huge and are packed full of flavor. The meat was cooked perfectly and those jalapeños really bring the heat. I elevated my burger with the scallion aioli and sambal mayo. Omg... the scallion aioli, ITS A MUST GET. It is soo soo good. It goes well with both the burger and fries. The sambal mayo is also pretty good, like a spicy mayo but more deeper in flavor.

I LOVED BURGER-CHAN lmao 100/100 stars! I loved how there is no struggle to find parking, I loved how clean and spacious it was, I loved their customer service! Everything was great here!! I tend to be a picky eater and being able to fill out exactly what I wanted on my burger via paper was perfect! They got my order right the first time and our food came out so quick. This is such a good burger spot, I don't know how I slept on this for so long! Everything about this burger was perfection, the fries were good and the milkshake was amazing. This is definitely up there on my burger list! The only downside to this place are their hours :( they are only opened till 3pm and closed on Mondays. Other than that if you are able to check this place out i recommend you do so!! It's so worth it!

Service - 5/5. The line moves quickly with their clipboard system of choosing what you want, and confirming at the register. They are efficient and close early. Service is friendly and nice. Ambiance - it's good as a burger place. There's a mural on the wall, crashing wave picture. There's pictures coloring book pages on the walls too. It's clean, and certainly doesn't smell like greasy fast food. Food 4/5. The burger was cooked to perfection, hot juicy but the patties were bit on the thin side even when you double it up. It was good, I prefer something slightly thicker like a 1/3 lb burger but I liked the freshness of the veggies and the sauces to choose from. The waffle fries were hot and crispy. I don't know if I would return since their hours are quite limited 10-3pm but it is good, just not worth it to me to go out of my way to have again. But if you're in the area and want to try a better burger I'd come here.

There was a line when we went but it was closer to closing. They have different colored paper for different items like beef, chicken, fish. You select everything you want on the paper and hand it in when you get to the front of the line. We ordered drinks and were given a token to take to the bar area so they can make your drink for you. The sweet potato waffle fries were really good and the burger was ok, maybe would have been better with the ticker patties. It's spacious and the service was pretty quick but I didn't think is was mouth watering good. It's a decent burger for sure though.
